Phil Falcone’s Harbinger Capital Partners launched a Pan Asian hedge fund in September 2010 to focus on special situation opportunities within Asia. According to an article from FINalternatives, the hedge fund received a $500 million commitment from a large investor with the fund still open to investors. Mr. Falcone will oversee management of Harbinger Capital’s new hedge fund himself out of his New York office.

Notably, Harbinger Capital also acquired the US division of insurance provider Old Mutual for $350 million at the beginning of August.
