GLG Drops from #1, Toscafund Falls Off of EUROPE50

The Hedge Fund Journal has released the 2009 EUROPE50 list of top European hedge fund managers. Notably, total assets managed by the top 50 hedge funds fell from $366 billion in 2008 to $271 billion as of 1/31/09.

Having lost a third of its assets management over the past year, GLG Partners fell from the #1 to #4. Activist manager Toscafund, which had an estimated $6 billion last year, completely fell off the list.

Noteworthy activists that made this year’s list include: #8 Children's Investment Fund Management (9.5 bn), #20 Polygon Investment Partners (4 bn), and #50 Centaurus (2.5 bn)
