San Francisco-based Farallon Capital Management LLC has become the latest hedge fund firm to establish a separate real estate fund to capitalize on the recovery in property values. According to Reuters, Farallon Capital Management will raise up to $400 million for an eight-year investment period in which it will focus on shopping centers, office buildings and apartment complexes.

Although Farallon Capital Management has previously invested in real estate through its other hedge funds, this will be its first standalone real estate fund. Paulson & Co and Blue Mountain Capital are among other large hedge firms that have started new hedge funds targeting illiquid real estate investments.
