Ellen Wang is in the early stages of launching her own hedge fund, Academy Investments. Hedge fund news source Fin Alternatives reports that Wang earlier managed $1.8 billion at the Clinton Group while delivering average annual gains of 21.1 percent from 2005 to 2009.

Wang plans to invest in large- and mid-cap stocks in the U.S., Canada, Europe, and Asia-Pacific. Sources say her hedge fund plans to make between 5,000 and 10,000 trades per day in highly liquid securities.

Academy Investments has hired Clinton Group veterans Donald Cambieri and Harlan Simon to head marketing, Jason Fletcher for legal matters, and North Creek Capital for strategic and marketing advice.
