Charles Fernandez finds life after Fairholme with Barnstar Opportunities Fund

Charles Fernandez, who left the helm of Fairholme Capital Management last year, has re-emerged with his own hedge fund he calls Barnstar Opportunities Fund. According to FINalternatives, the Barnstar hedge fund will be event-driven focused on companies facing financial, legal or regulatory challenges that create buying opportunities.

Utilizing an extensive due diligence process conducted by a team of regulatory and legal experts, Barnstar’s Charles Fernandez expects to identify four to five core holdings comprising nearly half of his portfolio, and as many as 15 smaller positions for the other half. Investments made by Barnstar Opportunities Fund will go towards the recapitalization or restructuring of dislocated that can generate an upside of 50 percent.
